About this badge
This intensive program is designed for poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers who wish to develop their process and to refine their craft. During the two-week course, spend six mornings in improvisation workshops taught by NYU School of Professional Studies Paul McGhee Division faculty members. These workshops help you to find new ways of generating and revising text. In the afternoon, participate in seven craft workshops in either poetry or prose that are taught by distinguished visiting writers. Jericho Brown is the invited poet; Cristina Garcia, the invited fiction writer; and Katha Pollitt, the invited nonfiction writer. During two of the seven afternoon sessions, work with a writer in a genre other than your own. Also, have private conferences with the craft instructor in your area of concentration. In the evenings, attend readings, lectures, and social events. A maximum of 12 poets, 12 fiction writers, and 12 nonfiction writers are chosen to participate. Prior coursework in poetry or prose is strongly recommended.
