Program Description

Industry and government organizations rely on a complex network of external dependencies, known as critical infrastructure, to sustain business functions and reliability. Examples of this can range from energy and water to communications and transportation, and everything in between. Consideration of these physical assets is vital across many industries, including the banking and retail sectors, local and national government, architecture, urban planning, and real estate.

This program provides an understanding of environmental threats and hazards, reduction of physical and cyber vulnerabilities, and consequence mitigation, with the full range of critical infrastructure protection and resilience skills needed to effectively support managers and leaders across both private and public sectors.

Students will gain an introductory understanding of physical and cybersecurity assessments, dependency and resilience gap analysis, and general infrastructure preparedness activities. They will develop and deliver resilience-enhancement options and vulnerability-reducing recommendations. Lastly, students will learn to function as critical infrastructure professionals within the incident command system, and they will acquire the requisite education to support emergency operations centers.

The Advanced Diploma in Infrastructure Security and Resilience imparts the skills required for careers in this field. The Diploma delivers a practical application of knowledge and experience that leverages real-world simulations, project scenarios, and case studies to enable a hands-on learning experience. Students will complete online FEMA training that can be highlighted on resumes.

If you are not producing a work product for your current employer, then you can focus on a site or sector of interest, after consulting with faculty. The report will include:

  • An all-hazards area assessment focused around a single facility and complex, and an overview of partner and response agencies

  • Results of site vulnerability assessment and consequence survey, and a description of available cybersecurity resources

  • Identification of external site dependencies, detailed restoration prioritization, dependency and resilience gap analysis, and required infrastructure preparedness activities

  • Resilience-enhancement options and vulnerability-reducing recommendations

  • Development of preliminary standard operating procedures for incorporating critical infrastructure protection and resilience into corporate or government incident command

Job Skills

  • The ability to conduct physical security assessments
