This course provides translators with an overview of the technical and methodological underpinnings of audio-visual media translation. It introduces them to the basic computing tools and methods used for transcription, time-code spotting, voice recording, and file conversion—essential tasks that translators are called to perform when doing audio-visual translation work. This class also demystifies digital media in general, including screen geometry, codecs, and file formats. Gain familiarity with a variety of industry-standard software and hardware, as well as the standards, metrics, and other considerations necessary to properly estimate costs and to advise clients.
